F-104A - single-seat interceptor version (153 were built), in USAF service from 1958 through 1960, then transferred to the Air National Guard (ANG) until 1963. Some were exported to Jordan, Pakistan, and Taiwan.
Operation Jonah Able - On 10 September 1958, U.S. response to the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis (八二三砲戰), disassembled F-104A Starfighters of the 83rd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron were airlifted by C-124 Globemaster II to Taoyuan Air Base, Taiwan. The first F-104A was operational 30 hours after arriving and by 19 September the entire squadron was operational.
F-104C - fighter-bomber version, with improved fire-control radar (AN/ASG-14T-2), one centerline and two wing pylons (total of five), in-flight refueling capability.
F-104G - multi-role fighter-bomber (1,122 built). Manufactured by Lockheed & Canadair(CF-104G, larger vertical fin with fully powered rudder (as used on the two-seat versions)
F-104S - Italian versions were produced by FIAT (246 built)
RF-104G - tactical reconnaissance version based on the F-104G. (189 built)
F-104J - Specialized interceptor version of the F-104G for Japanese Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF 航空自衛隊), built under license by Mitsubishi for the air-superiority role, armed with cannon and four Sidewinders; no strike capability.
CF-104 - modified version F-104 Starfighter single-seat fighter-bomber built in Canada by Canadair under licence, used by Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
CF-104D - Two-seat training version for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
