  • After the Battle of the Santa Cruz IslandsAkigumo & Makigumo sank the heavily damaged and abandoned USS Hornet on 27 Oct 1942
  • 1943/44 - Radar & AA guns refit
  • 11 Apr 1944 - Akigumo was torpedoed and sunk by the submarine USS Redfin
