  • Battle of Midway [4~6 June 1942] - escorted the cruisers Myōkō & Haguro.
  • sank tugboat USS Seminole and damaged the high-speed minesweeper USS Zane (DMS-14) at Guadalcanal [25 October 1942]
  • First Naval Battle of Guadalcanal [12–13 November 1942] - rescued survivors from the torpedoed battleship Hiei,
  • [23 November 1942] rescued survivors from the destroyer Hayashio.
  • [28 November 1942] Shiratsuyu was damaged by a bomb from USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress bombers, back to Sasebo for complete repairs on 25 February 1943
  • [20 July 1943] - escorted aircraft carrier Unyō from Yokosuka to Truk.
  • Battle of Empress Augusta Bay [2 November1943] - collided with destroyer Samidare, returned to Sasebo for repaires & refit, one gun turret was removed & replaced by two triple 25-mm anti-aircraft guns.
  • [end of December 1943] - escorted cruisers Myōkō, Haguro & Tone
  • [31 January 1944] - rescued survivors from torpedoed Yasukuni Maru at Truk.
  • [February ~ April 1944] - escorted battleship Musashi.
  • [night of 14 June 1944] - collided with the Japanese tanker Seiyo Maru and sank at southeast of Surigao Strait on 15 June 1944.
