  • Battle of Tarakan [11~12 Janurary 1942] - Invasion of the Netherlands East Indies.
  • Battle of the Java Sea [27 February 1942]
  • Battle of Midway [4~6 June 1942]
  • Battle of the Eastern Solomons [24~25 August 1942] -  escorted battleship Mutsu & seaplane carrier Kunikawa Maru.
  • Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands [26 October 1942]
  • First Naval Battle of Guadalcanal [12–13 November 1942] - claimed damage to an Allied cruiser.
  • [24 January 1943] - was torpedoed by submarine USS Wahoo.
  • [end of May to end of November 1943] - returned to Yokosuka for repairs & refit. One gun turret was removed and replaced by two additional triple Type 96 25 mm AA Guns.
  • [11 January 1944] - returned to Truk.
  • [mid February 1944] - carried out escort duties. On 8 June 1944, Harusame  was attacked and sunk, by USAAF B-25 bombers near New Guinea.
