  • ~9 Mar 1942 - Dutch East Indies campaign
  • 31 March~10 April 1942 - Indian Ocean raid -  on 5 Apr 1942, sank British heavy cruisers HMS Cornwall & HMS Dorsetshire by Soryu's D3A dive bombers.
  • Apr~Jun 1942 - refit
  • 4~7 Jun 1942 - Battle of Midway -  on 4 Jun 1942, Sōryū was attacked by thirteen SBD Dauntlesses (VB-3) from USS Yorktown. IJN destroyers Isokaze (磯風) and Hamakaze (浜風) rescued the survivors. And Isokaze scuttled Soryu with torpedoes.
