Description
  • World War Two
  • Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN)
  • an experimental light cruiser built between 1922 and 1923 (commissioned on 23 July 1923), name after Yūbari River (夕張川) in Hokkaidō, Japan.
  • Invasion of Hangzhou(杭州), China (20 October 1937)
  • Invasion of Wake Island (11 and 23 December 1941)
  • Battle of Rabaul (23 January ~ February 1942) - returned to Truk for repairs on 25 March 1942.
  • The Solomon Islands Campaign (29 June 1942) - Yubari sank the heavy cruiser USS Vincennes and damaged destroyer USS Ralph Talbot in Battle of Savo Island (9 August 1942)
  • Yūbari was hit by 2 torpedoes from submarine USS Bluegill and sank at Palau  27 April 1944
