  • The first U.S. Sherman tanks in battle were M4s and M4A1s in Operation Torch on 6 December, 1942
  • M4 & M4A1 was supplanted by M4A3 in late of 1944
  • Direct Vision (DV) - the armored visors for the driver and co-driver at the front of the hull. These visors were deleted from the glacis plate as it is the weak point of armor.
